Credential Evaluations

Some international students may need to complete a credential evaluation for their coursework completed at international universities. Please see the information below to learn what students need to complete a credential evaluation and what type of evaluation is needed.

Transfer Students
International students who transfer to ESU from an international university with which ESU does not have a course transfer articulation agreement will need to complete an evaluation in order to transfer their credits.
  • Undergraduate students
  • Graduate students
    • Must complete a "Course-by-Course" evaluation from a NACES or AICE accredited evaluation company.
    • The Office of International Education recommends utilizing Scholaro for this type of evaluation.
Second Bachelor Students
International students applying to ESU to pursue a Second Bachelor's program must complete a general/basic credential evaluation that shows their international undergraduate credential is equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor's degree. The Office of International Education recommends utilizing Scholaro for this type of evaluation.

Credential Verification
ESU evaluates all credentials for admission purposes in-house. However, from time to time, a student could be asked to complete a credential evaluation for admission purposes if:
  • there are questions about the authenticity or veracity of the credential
  • consensus on the equivalence of a credential cannot be determined
In this situation, the Office of International Education would ask the student to complete an evaluation through Scholaro

For questions or assistance in applying for/completing an evaluation, or to determine if you need to complete an evaluation, please contact the Office of International Education at oisa@emporia.edu or 620-341-5374.
