Online Intensive English Classes

The Intensive English Program offers online Intensive English Classes that can be taken from anywhere in the world.  Intensive English courses are accelerated language courses to rapidly develop English language skills for academic contexts.

Admissions Information

To apply, complete the application form. If admitted, a $60 application fee will be assessed to your student account upon enrollment in courses. Please direct any questions you have about the application or admissions process to oisa@emporia.edu.

Courses Offered 

IE 009 - Advanced Writing
In Advanced Writing students develop skills for university level writing, including academic rhetorical styles, vocabulary, and essays.
 
IE 006 - Advanced Speaking and Understanding
In Advanced Speaking and Understanding students develop listening and speaking skills, including listening to academic lectures, giving academic presentations, and conversation skills for academic classrooms and interactions.
 
IE 008 - Advanced Reading
In Advanced Reading students develop reading comprehension of academic texts, as well as developing their critical reading skills and understanding of academic vocabulary.
 
IE 005 - Advanced Structure 
In Advanced Structure students focus on the grammar and structure of the English language at an advanced level to prepare for communication in academic settings.
 
IE 078 - Advanced English Pronunciation
In Advanced English Pronunciation students do extensive work on English pronunciation and accent reduction.

Requirements

Technology: Students will need to have access to a computer with a microphone and webcam for activities in the class. A list of technical specifications is available at the Learn Anywhere site. 
 
Textbooks: Some courses may require a textbook which the student would be required to purchase.
 

English Proficiency Requirements

Prior to the start of classes, students will be given an English proficiency test to determine the appropriate level of course for the student.
 
These courses can satisfy Emporia State University English language requirements needed for international students who plan to take academic courses at ESU.
