On-Campus Employment
F-1 Students
On campus employment is defined as employment which occurs on ESU campus. Positions include teaching assistantships, research assistantships, and student hourly employment (Sodexo Dining Services, Library, etc). Note: International Students are not eligible for Student Work Study positions.
Eligibility
F-1 students may engage in employment if:
Hours Allowed
F-1 students are eligible to work on campus a maximum of 20 hours per week during the Fall and Spring academic semesters. During breaks and official school vacation periods, F-1 students are eligible to work more than 20 hours per week on campus. A student who has a valid Form I-20 and intends to enroll for the next regular term may work on-campus.
Please note that on-campus employment is not permitted after completion of a degree or program unless the student has been issued a Form I-20 to begin a new academic program.
Process
Once you accept an on-campus job, the hiring department administrative assistant will complete an On-Campus Work Permit Request form via OnBase. If you do not have a social security card, you or the administrative assistant should request the Office of International Education for a social security card filing packet. This is done by writing an email to oisa@emporia.edu with the hired student’s job offer letter. The letter may be a forwarded email or attached document. Typically, the administrative assistant facilitates the request, however some departments direct a hired student to physically visit the OIE with an offer letter in tow. Eventually, you the student will receive an email notice to enter passport and immigration information into the OnBase form then submit. An email will be sent to the student once the employment authorization form is completed and approved.
